Since the team’s inaugural season in 1989, the Orlando Magic have won four division championships (1995, 1996, 2008, 2009), had over five 50-plus win seasons, and have won two Eastern Conference titles! The Magic have also been home to numerous star basketball players over the years, including Shaquille O’Neal, Penny Hardaway, Tracy McGrady, and, the recently added NBA powerhouse, Dwight Howard! With strong players and the continued leadership of Coach Stan Van Gundy, since joining the Magic coaching staff in 2007, the Orlando Magic have continuously grown into one of the top franchises in the NBA.
The 2008-2009 Season was one for the record books! Led by key players Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu, and rookie-player Courtney Lee, the Orlando Magic led the Southeast Division for the entire first-half of the season with one of the top four records in the entire NBA. Battling through the rest of the season with a few injuries, trading of players, and an up-and-down roller coaster of wins and losses, the Magic pushed through and continued to maintain one of the top records in the league, giving them an overall winning season record of 59-23 and a secured spot for the playoffs! Blowing past the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, the Magic went onto the second round facing-off against the 2007-2008 World Champions, the Boston Celtics. With nail-biting games and a strong series, the Magic defeated the Celtics winning the series 3-2 moving onto the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1996. With their eyes on the NBA Finals the Magic needed to put all of their focus and energy towards the Cleveland Cavaliers and, NBA MVP, Lebron James. Beating the Cavaliers was no easy task, but the Magic pulled through winning the series 4-2 and were on their way to play in the World Championship 2009 NBA Finals against Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers!
As one of the biggest names in the NBA, the Orlando Magic games are a must-see event while visiting Central Florida!
