The Universal Orlando Resort is mostly known for its two theme parks, Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure, but you don’t have to have an admission ticket to enjoy one of the best parts of this resort – Universal’s CityWalk. In fact, since it opened in 1999, Universal’s CityWalk has quickly become one of Orlando’s hottest spots for both dining and entertainment. This 30-acre entertainment district has something for everyone – from live music, casual and fine dining, shopping, dancing, a movie theater and special events throughout the year, and with a central location between the two parks, it’s hard for any guest of the Universal Orlando Resort to miss out on the fun of CityWalk!

Universal’s CityWalk has many nighttime establishments that attract adults to this area, like the Red Coconut Club, the groove – a dance club with a different theme each night – or Pat O’Brien’s, a re-creation of New Orleans’ favorite watering hole. But the most popular new activity for nighttime revelers has proven to be CityWalk’s Rising Star. In the wake of the popularity of shows like “American Idol” and “The Voice,” guests get to live out their dreams of taking to the stage and performing in front of a packed house. This 440-seat theater is different than most karaoke joints, however, as guests can actually perform with live bands and back-up singers five nights of the week (Tuesday through Saturday), while on Sunday and Monday nights, the tracks are recorded (but you still have backup singers!). There is a cover charge of $7, but there is no additional fee to put yourself at center stage!

If singing live in front of an audience doesn’t seem up our alley, how about enjoying a quieter evening that includes dinner at one of CityWalk’s most popular restaurants followed by a movie at the AMC Universal Cineplex 20? With the deal known as CityWalk’s Meal and a Movie, guests can choose from a wide selection of entrees at eight different CityWalk restaurants, including favorites such as Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, NBA City and the NASCAR SPORTS GRILLE, and then enjoy one of the summer blockbusters on the silver screen all for one low price.

Universal’s CityWalk does not charge for admission, but certain venues do require a cover charge if you do not have the CityWalk Party Pass or multi-day theme park admission tickets. Operating hours are from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. daily, and parking fees do apply before 6 p.m. and on select special-event nights.
