Amidst ferocious dragons, Hippogriffs, Hagrid’s Hut and Hogwarts Castle lies a small little shop at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter where guests will experience the same type of magical moment Harry Potter did in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

It may not be a thrilling roller coaster ride and it doesn’t serve butterbeer, but Ollivander’s Wand Shop is one of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s most unique attractions, and if you haven’t yet experienced the magic of the place, you must do so immediately!

“When guests visit Ollivanders, they instantly feel like they’re in the shop from the films. It’s an intimate, single-windowed building, with the same signs, colors and other details read about in the books and seen in the films,” said Alan Gilmore, art director of the Harry Potter films and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. “But more importantly, visitors to Ollivanders get to experience for themselves the magical moment that forever changed Harry’s life.”

It’s no wonder guests to Ollivadner’s feel like they’re actually in the Harry Potter film as Universal Orlando Resort worked closely with Warner Bros Consumer Products and the Warner Bros. Harry Potter brand team to make the shop as authentic and unique as it is in the film.

And guests will feel that authenticity and magic the second they step into Ollivander’s Wand Shop and find thousands of multi-colored dusty wand boxes stacked from floor to ceiling. With the help of an actor who plays the role of wandkeeper, guests will go through a wand selection process where the wandkeeper asks a few questions to learn about the new wand owner, and then allows the guest to try out two or three wands. After a series of mishaps occur around the shop i.e. lightning, thunder and similar effects, the right wand finds the right guest and all is right again at Ollivander’s.

The demonstration lasts about five minutes, and all the guests in the shop (a group of about 25 guests enter at one time) are then ushered into the Owl Post, adjacent to Ollivander’s. The lucky guests are then given the option to purchase the special wand.

Just like in the movie, the wands themselves vary in shape and size and characteristic. Some are longer, some shorter, some heavier and some lighter and all are made from different wood. Besides the differences in the sizes and characteristics of the wands, each one will have its own magical powers.
