DisneyQuest Closing at Disney Springs in 2016

Virtual-reality games and attractions will soon be replaced with basketballs and hoops when DisneyQuest closes its doors for good in 2016 to make way for the NBA Experience, Walt Disney World confirmed Tuesday.

The five-story indoor interactive theme park and arcade featuring video and virtual games opened in 1998 at Downtown Disney’s West Side, a landmark to the entertainment complex now known as Disney Springs.

Some people have noted that in this day and age – where smartphones and lifelike video games have taken over – DisneyQuest may be a bit dated to guests. Still, favorites like CyberSpace Mountain, Virtual Jungle Cruise and Mighty Ducks Pinball will be missed.

But its replacement looks promising. The NBA Experience will be an expansive, one-of-a-kind attraction and restaurant featuring “hands-on activities that put families and guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action.”
