Big changes are coming to Downtown Disney ®! Walt Disney World ® announced today plans to transform Downtown Disney ® into Disney Springs with more shopping, dining and entertainment options.

According to a Disney ® press release the improved area will be a contemporary and eclectic mix of Disney ® and other brands that features boutique shops and flagship anchor stores unlike anything guests have experienced before in Central Florida.

“Disney Springs will be a timeless, vibrant place where Walt Disney World guests and local residents can relax, shop, dine and be entertained in an imaginative setting where they’ll instantly feel at home,” said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “Featuring distinctive brands, world-class restaurants and unforgettable entertainment, Disney Springs will be brought to life with the same focus on storytelling and attention to detail that goes into our theme parks, resorts and cruise ships, resulting in a welcoming space that only Disney could create.”

The number of shops, restaurants and other venues currently at Downtown Disney ® will nearly double at Disney Springs, resulting in more than 150 establishments. The area will also boost Central Florida’s economy adding more jobs, revenues and business opportunities including 1,200 construction jobs and nearly 4,000 operational roles.

Inspired by Florida’s waterfront towns, Disney Springs will include four outdoor neighborhoods interconnected by a spring and lakefront. The new area will also have a new gateway with a signature water tower and grand entry.  Here are the proposed new areas:

  • The Town Center – Guests will be able to enjoy a sophisticated mix of shopping and dining here as well as a promenade where you can relax and take in the gorgeous sights and sounds.
  • The Landing – This colorful commercial district will be the place to go for unique dining and will offer beautiful waterfront views.
  • The Marketplace - This family-friendly area will combine new experiences like an over-the-water pedestrian causeway with classic Disney ® favorites like an expanded World of Disney store.
  • The West Side – Not unlike Downtown Disney’s West Side now, Disney Springs’ West Side will offer lively entertainment, along with new elevated spaces that lets guests see the activity happening down below.

Construction is slated to begin in April with new areas opening in phases. Disney Springs is expected to be complete in 2016. Stay tuned for more details on Disney Springs.
