The “galaxy, far, far away” just got a little bit closer thanks to the recent unveiling of the new Star Wars Lands at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. The company unveiled a 50-foot-wide 3D model of the area that will cover approximately 14 acres. The Star-Wars-themed lands are due to open in 2019 at both Disney parks.
The two lands, both currently under construction, will take guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading post and “one of the last stops before Wild Space,” according to a press release. Disney unveiled the land at the D23 expo, where the models will be on display through the weekend.
The lands will include two main attractions – one that includes a secret mission onboard the Millennium Falcon and the other that puts guests in the middle of a “climactic battle” between the First Order and the Resistance. The images showed rugged terrain, lush forest and metal cantina structures.
“This is the most ambitious we’ve built to date,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney’s parks division at the unveiling.
