Disney World Disability Guide

Walt Disney World is not only the most magical place on Earth, it is one of the most accommodating for guests with special needs. Whether you use a wheelchair, a service animal, require a special diet or have hearing or vision impairments, Disney World is a place for everybody.

Hearing

Walt Disney World offers several different services for those with hearing impairments including the Assisted Listening Device recommended for guests with mild to moderate hearing loss. Hand-held Captioning displays text on a screen where fixed captioning systems won’t work. Reflective Captioning is used at theatre-type attractions. American Sign Language is also used throughout the park, including on attractions and Video Captioning is also available.

Mobility

If you plan to use a wheelchair at Walt Disney World, there are several different options to choose from including:

1) You can bring your own as long as it falls within the 32” x 48” size requirement.
2) You can rent wheelchairs/ECVs at all four Disney parks or at Disney Springs. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come first-served basis. 3) You can rent a wheelchair or ECV from an outside vendor. All of the vendors provide delivery and pickup at your hotel free of charge.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome in most locations at Walt Disney World. Service animals must remain on a leash or in a harness at all times. Guests with service animals follow the same attraction entrance procedures as guests using wheelchairs. There are some rides where service animals may not be permitted. In those instances, a member of the Guest’s party must stay with the animal. There are designated “break” areas for service dogs. These are usually backstage locations.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

If a member of your party is autistic make sure you obtain a Disability Access Service Card. This card allows you to schedule a return time for a given attraction. The service can be used in addition to FastPass+.

Vision Impairments

Every Disney Park offers a braille guide book or Walkman with a descriptive tape.
