Halloween Horror Nights 2012 at Universal Studios is a bloody mess. From the vampires walking the streets of the park with blood trickling down their teeth and onto their chins and clothes to the flesh-eating zombies that grab at you in “The Walking Dead” haunted house, this year’s event is a bloody one. And that’s the way Universal Studios likes it!

There is no denying blood makes the world go round at Halloween Horror Nights. What other bodily fluid can make you squeal in terror and feel faint than the site of blood oozing out of a gaping wound or covered over fiendish hands? Universal Studios understands that blood is the key to a good scare that’s why they are constantly refreshing their blood supplies throughout the park. In fact, there is even a Blood Day where Universal Studios covers every haunted house in the red, sticky liquid to keep things fresh.

And while all of the seven haunted houses at Halloween Horror Nights all benefit from the visual of blood, it’s “The Walking Dead” haunted house that really has to keep their blood supply flowing. In this terrifying house, blood is an absolute must. In fact, when you have zombies walking around in a post-apocalyptic world, blood is more common than water. And there is nothing worse than walking through a haunted house where zombies roam with not enough blood. Being authentic is key, that’s why Universal Studios is constantly adding more blood to the walkers’ clothes, on the piled up bodies, the RV, the barn and especially the double doors in the hospital scene that read “Don’t Open Dead Inside,” which are written in blood.

Similarly, the actual show, “The Walking Dead,” which just premiered the first episode of the third season last Sunday likes to refresh their set as well. Cast members are known to help make sure their set is fresh with the fear that would come with a walker-filled world. In a recent interview Steven Yeun who plays Glen discusses how real looking the prison from Season 3 is (it’s not a real prison) and how he likes to spit on the ground of the prison before scenes to keep things freshly dirty.

The amount of detail incorporated into the new prison set in Season 3 of “The Walking Dead” is absolutely incredible and if you want to see that same level of detail and feel like you are actually on the set, “The Walking Dead” haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 2012 will make you feel like you’re actually there.

If you haven’t taken a terrifying walk through “The Walking Dead” haunted house or the rest of Halloween Horror Nights’ houses you only have two more weeks to do so. You can find discounted Halloween Horror Nights tickets right here on Best of Orlando.
