It’s horrifyingly official! Universal Studios has officially announced that the hit AMC series “The Walking Dead” will indeed infect Halloween Horror Nights 2012. It’s the first time the Orlando theme park has featured a television series at the horror event and if it’s anything like the Golden Globe-nominated and Emmy Award-winning series it will be shocking!

If you are unfamiliar with the show that is sweeping the nation “The Walking Dead” is based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and takes viewers through the months and years that follow after zombies otherwise known as “walkers” have taken over the world. The show follows a group of survivors who travel the state of Georgia in search of safety.

With such a huge following and a Season 3 premiere right around the same time Halloween Horror Nights debuts in October, Universal Studios saw a great opportunity to bring the horrific series to life. And to do so Universal Studios’ Halloween creative teams are working with AMC and “The Walking Dead” to create an experience that’ll make fans feel like they are actually in a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world. The detail no doubt will include elaborately designed sets with familiar locations and scenes from the series and of course, lots and lots of undead who will try desperately to feast on the living!

“We want people to experience the same terror of the walker-filled reality our characters faced in seasons one and two - and will continue to face in our third season,” said Greg Nicotero, Co-Executive Producer and Special Effects Make-up Artist for the series. “Our collaboration with Universal Studios’ creative teams is exciting as we work to truly capture the essence of the show.”

Jim Timon, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Universal Orlando Resort went on to state that guests will feel the same fear the characters from the show do at “The Walking Dead” haunted houses and mazes.

“The Walking Dead” puts real people in incredibly horrific situations where they experience true, raw fear, and guests at Halloween Horror Nights experience the same thing. We can’t wait to merge the two powerful concepts together.”

It seems the Orlando theme park has already begun construction for “The Walking Dead” haunted houses. Guests can now spot an RV that looks strikingly like the one featured in the series parked outside of the Disaster queue.  And there is even evidence of a barn, which housed dozens of “walkers” in Season 2 being built around the area.

Stay tuned for more details on what “The Walking Dead” haunted houses and mazes will entail as well as other Halloween Horror Nights 2012 news.
