February kicks off the start of NASCAR season at the Daytona International Speedway. You make think of the Speedway and automatically think of the Daytona 500 but there are several races that lead up to the prestigious event that are just as exciting to be a part of and only Best of Orlando can give you access to these races for less! Here is a list of Daytona International Speedway’s best kick off races, qualifying events and many more action-packed races you won’t want to miss in 2014:
NASCAR Sprint Unlimited – The annual invitation-only NASCAR Sprint Cup Series brings is one of the most competitive events of the racing season. Always held the weekend before the Daytona 500, this race is the kickoff event for the NASCAR portion of Speedweeks. Pole winners from the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and past winners put it all on the line in an attempt to qualify for at least one race in the 2014 season. The NASCAR Sprint Unlimited will be held February 15.
Budweiser Duels – Formerly known as the Gatorade Duels, the Budweiser Duels are a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series preliminary event to the Daytona 500. Also held each year in February, this race consists of two 150-mile races, held on the Thursday before the Daytona 500. The results determine the starting lineup for the coveted Daytona 500, which is held on that Sunday. This year the Budweiser Duels have been moved to primetime on Thursday, February 20.
NextEra Energy Resources 250 – NASCAR goes trucking with the annual NextEra Energy Resources 250 race. Fans can watch as the hard-racing, tough trucks of the NASCAFR Camping World Truck Series take to the high banks at the Daytona International Speedway. The race always precedes some of Daytona’s closest racing. This year it will be held on February 21.
Drive4COPD – In an initiative to educate, inform and screen millions of people who may be at risk for COPD, the Drive4COPD 300 race held at Daytona International Speedway is much more than a race. Each February this important race raises much needed public awareness about COPD through its outreach to fans. Here you’ll not only watch as NASCAR drivers speed along the track but you’ll get information on the disease and how you can help prevent it. The Drive4COPD takes place on February 22.
