Recap: Opening Weekend at 2017 Epcot Food & Wine Festival

The 2017 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is now in full swing

The 2017 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival kicked off this past weekend. Celebrating Epcot’s 35 years, this year’s festival is bigger and better than ever, and that was apparent at opening weekend. Here are some highlights from the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival’s opening:

Try delicious food from around the world at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival

The Marketplaces – There are a total of 35 global marketplaces at this year’s event. One for every year Epcot has been open. This weekend’s opening brought in several returning favorites as well as five new marketplaces. Active Eats delighted with sweet avocado crema with strawberries, cake and tortilla streusel. The Almond Orchard served up cauliflower risotto with pulled chicken, artichokes, spinach and Parmesan cheese. Coastal Eats whisked guess away to the sea with lump crab cake with slaw and avocado lemongrass cream. Flavors From Fire gave off some that with smoked corned beef with crispy potatoes, pickled onions and Blonde Ale Beer fondue and the Light Lab concocted all sorts of drinks.

Celebrities – On Sunday, September 3, Chef Shaun O’Neale (winner of FOX TV’s “MasterChef”) was a part of the demonstration “What’s Cookin’ With… in the Festival Center. A cooking demo, breakfast and Q&A were all a part of the fun. Be on the lookout for more celebrities throughout the festival.

Enjoy live music at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival like the Baha Men

Live Music – Kicking off the Eat to the Beat Concert Series was Delta Rae, a folk rock band from North Carolina. The band took the stage at America Gardens Theatre three times nightly from August 31 - September 1. The Hooters followed from September 2 – 3, and Baha Men rounded out the long weekend September 4-5. Next up is Fuel.

Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It – The fun, interactive Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It station brought in Chef Emily Ellyn for its first guest. Ellyn opened the fun with Cask & Crew Whiskey. Guests were also invited to play bartender and mix their own cocktail.

Kids Culinary Fun – The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is for the kiddos too. Rey’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak returned to this year’s event and includes a culinary scavenger hunt that takes guests all over World Showcase. Many of the global marketplaces are also featuring dishes geared towards kids.

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival runs through November 13. You can find discounted tickets to Walt Disney World here on Best of Orlando.
