Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Epcot

After the D23 Expo, we learned Epcot will be getting quite a few new rides and attractions in the coming years, most notably the new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. But with the exciting announcement also came sad news: Ellen’s Energy Adventure will close to make way for the new ride.

Ellen’s Energy Adventure is located in the Universe of Energy Pavilion. It’s the second attraction since the pavilion’s opening in 1982. The ride features daytime talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres and science guru Bill Nye. Ellen serves as a tour guide on a whimsical and hilarious multimedia ride through time to examine the forces that fuel our lives and the universe.

The ride begins with a pre-show film starring Ellen. While watching TV, Ellen dozes off and dreams she’s a contestant on an energy-themed episode of Jeopardy against her former know-it-all college roommate Judy (Jamie Lee Curtis). Unfortunately, Ellen knows nothing about energy and Judy has a PhD in the subject. Thankfully Ellen’s next door neighbor just so happens to be Bill Nye the Science Guy and he convinces Ellen to take a time traveling crash course in the history of energy.

Guests then enter the attraction’s theater for another film, this time about energy sources. What makes this ride so fun is that the seats of the theater divide into six 97-passenger traveling cars that carry guests from the Big Bang to the swamps and animatronic dinosaurs in a prehistoric forest. Along the way Ellen and the audience learns all about energy and its sources like fossil fuel as well as renewable energy sources such as solar and hydroelectric power.

The lights to Ellen’s Energy Adventure will go out on August 13, 2017. For one final chance to take a ride back in time and learn about energy look for discounted Walt Disney World tickets right here on Best of Orlando.
