In just a few more days Orlando’s beloved water park will close its splashy doors for good. Wet ‘n Wild will offer its final thrill rides, lazy river and wave pool on December 31.
In 2015 Wet ‘n Wild was ranked fourth among the Top 20 water parks in North America, bringing in nearly 1.3 million visitors that year. Unfortunately the year before, Universal Orlando had purchased the land the water park sits on. While there is no word yet on what the land will be used for, we do know that Universal will not be using it for its own water park.
A month before Wet ‘n Wild announced its closing, Universal revealed plans for Volcano Bay, a water “theme” park inspired by the tropical islands. The park will be located near the Cabana Bay Beach Resort and will open in the summer of 2017.
Much like Wet ‘n Wild, Volcano Bay will entertain guests with a lazy river, rapids river, wave pool, water-coaster, and slides shooting out of the park’s centerpiece, an overflowing volcano.
While we wait for more details and the grand opening of Volcano Bay make sure you get in one final thrill ride on the Der Stuka, one final float no the lazy river and one final wave in the wave pool with discounted Wet ’n Wild tickets right here on Best of Orlando.
