Now that the weather is warmer and summer is right around the corner, it’s a great time to learn how to surf at Walt Disney World ®. That’s right, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park offers surf lessons for any guest who is at least 8 years old and interested in learning how to surf without stepping foot in the ocean!
Hang ten and ride the waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool where, unlike the ocean the waves are controlled and predictable as they roll in every 90 seconds. And while you may be in a pool, you’ll still get the vast feel of the ocean as the Surf Pool is one of the largest wave pools in the world, spreading over 2.5 acres and containing almost 3 million gallons of water.
Your surf lesson begins with a 30-minute land instruction led by professional instructors from Craig Carroll’s Coco Beach Surf School. Then it’s time to get your feet wet and ride some waves as you enter the pool and your instructor teaches you how to properly get on your board, ride the waves, and so much more in a 2-hour lesson.
And here’s the best part, you get Typhoon Lagoon all to yourself as you learn how to surf! Surf lessons take place early in the morning, before the park even opens so you get that special one-on-one time with the instructor without having the whole water park watch you.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Surf Lessons include: 2 professional instructors per class Maximum of 12 Guests per class Soft-sided surfboard for use during your lesson 30 minutes of instruction on land 2 hours of surf time in the water
Surfing lessons are offered every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. We should note that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon’s Surf Lessons are not included in regular theme park admission.
If you want to enjoy the fun of surfing, but don’t want to take a lesson you can still catch a wave at Typhoon Lagoon’s Surf Pool during your Typhoon Lagoon visit. Just like during the Surf Lessons, the Surf Pool pumps out five foot waves every 90 seconds, so you can splish and splash around in them whenever you please. And since there are no actual surf lessons in the Surf Pool during park hours, it’s the perfect place for both budding surfers and those who just want to play in the bobbing water.
