The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure brings the Harry Potter universe to life with more than shops, food, and thrilling rides. The Triwizard Tournament show will whirl you back into the magic from the fourth installment of the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The show is the perfect precursor to riding the high-speed roller coaster Dragon Challenge, where you’ll actually be able to marvel at the Goblet of Fire and the shiny Triwizard Cup.

If you are unfamiliar with the Triwizard Tournament, it is a magical contest held between the three largest wizarding schools of Europe: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, each school being represented by one student. The Triwizard Tournament show at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter focuses on wizards from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, who hope to be the ones chosen from the Goblet of Fire. In doing so, members from each school show off their talents to the crowd, which include several acrobatic feats and stunning choreographed routines.

Three men from the Durmstrang Institute dressed in all brown take the stage first, showing off their sword fighting abilities using staffs to fight each other and show the rest of Hogsmeade why they deserver to be the one chosen. Then, it is three lovely ladies from Beauxbatons performing a beautiful rhythmic gymnastics-esque dance routine with ribbons. Dressed in blue dresses with blue hats, the Beauxbatons are spitting images of the ladies from the film. By the end of the performance, you’re half expecting to choose a wizard to compete but the host simply informs the crowd that if they want to see the Goblet of Fire, they can take a ride on the Dragon Challenge or guests can stick around and actually meet the members of both schools.

If you choose to take a ride on the Dragon Challenge you’ll board one of two ferocious dragons, either an aggressive Chinese Fireball or a ferocious Hungarian Horntail and take a thrilling ride that twists and loops high above the Hogwarts School. As you twist and turn on this roller coaster, you’ll get an excellent view of the Goblet of Fire and the shining Triwizard Cup. Dragon Challenge is actually two different high-speed roller coasters with each “dragon” being a completely different ride.
