Dragon Challenge will be replaced by an all new thrill ride in Universal Orlando

Exciting news is coming out of Universal Orlando this week. The Orlando theme park announced a brand new ride coming to the Hogsmeade section of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 2019.

While Universal didn’t release many details about the new thrill ride, the park did say it will take guests deeper into the Wizarding World created by J.K Rowling, and will feature “a new level of storytelling” during the experience. The ride will also feature characters and creatures from the story.

“This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world,” a post on Universal Orlando’s official parks blog said.

Universal Creative is collaborating with Warner Bros. and its design team, just as it has with other Wizarding World attractions.

In order to make way for the new ride, the current coaster, Dragon Challenge will permanently close on September 5. The last day of operation will be Monday, September 4.

The two-sided, intertwined, inverted coaster was one of the original rides for Islands of Adventure’s grand opening in 1999. It was then called Dueling Dragons before its name changed when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in 2010.

Stay tuned for more details on the new thrill ride. In the meantime get in one final ride on Dragon Challenge with discounted Universal Orlando tickets here on Best of Orlando.
