Selfie sticks will no longer be an option for guests visiting Walt Disney World theme parks and water parks.

Citing safety concerns, Walt Disney World will ban selfie sticks in all of their parks beginning June 30th 2015, said a company spokeswoman. According to the announcement the selfie sticks will not make it past security check points in any of the parks, including:

  • Disney World water parks
  • Disney World theme parks
  • DisneyQuest

The sticks will also be banned in the Disneyland Resort in California on June 30, with new rules taking affect in Paris and Hong Kong on July 1.

During the routine bag inspection before entering the theme parks, guests will be checked for these selfie sticks. If found, guests will be able either turn them in for pick-up at the end of the day, or return them to their cars or hotel rooms.

Guests visiting the park will be told about the policy in areas such as parking lots and resort hotels to help avoid any miscommunication. The new ban will also be added to the park rules on the Disney World website.

While selfie sticks had only been banned on specific rides before, with recent issues arising from their use in the parks, including the shutdown of a ride in Disney California Adventure Park, Disney officials have decided it would be best to ban them from the parks completely.

As more information is announced, we will be sure to keep you informed on all things Disney!
