What’s New for Walt Disney World in 2014

There is so much to see and do right now at Walt Disney World ® it’s hard to imagine even more magic is coming to the Orlando theme park in 2014. But it is true! Beginning In January, Walt Disney World ® will usher in new magical events, special openings, rides and much more. Here is a look at what’s in store for the most magical place on Earth in 2014:

The 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend by Cigna will run its way into the park Jan. 8 – 12. New for this year’s races are the Walt Disney World 10K and the Dopey Challenge, which includes participants running the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon over the course of 4 days. Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports has also expanded to four days.

The running fun continues in February with the 2014 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend Feb. 20-23. Women will show off their inner princess with the all-new Disney Enchanted 10k and Glass Slipper Challenge.

The 21st Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will debut new topiaries including Kermit and Miss Piggy March 5 – May 18. Miss Piggy will join Kermit and his blooming banjo in the World Showcase topiary display. At the Epcot ® front entrance garden, Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck will appear in larger-than-life splendor as they celebrate spring with a butterfly hunt adventure. There will also be a new Timon topiary that will join Pumbaa near the park’s outpost. The annual event will also include two new acts during the Flower Power Concert Series. Gary Lewis and the Playboys and The Alan Parsons Live Project have already been added to the lineup.

Perhaps the most anticipated Disney ® news for 2014 is the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which will debut sometime in the spring. When it opens the crown jewel of the new Fantasyland will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The family-style coaster will also feature a first-of-its-kind train of ride vehicles that allow cars to swing back and forth during the ride. The journey will be accompanied by music form the animated film and animated figures, including the Seven Dwarfs.
