Tucked back away from the coasters, thrills, chills, and spills of the theme parks, stands Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Standing at six stories tall and holding nearly 762 rooms inside, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of the best places to stay on Walt Disney World ® Resort property.
Winding down the back roads of Disney’s Animal Kingdom ® Theme Park resort area, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge transports you to the African Savanna. The entire building is fully wrapped in rich African inspired architecture, landscape, and culture. As you enter the Jambo House lobby, the thatched ceilings, large wooden beams, woven tapestry ceiling, and hand carved African furniture will have you feeling as if you have just entered an African lodge. Real African artifacts adorn the rich mahogany walls and tables, adding on to the spirit of Africa in the building. But the real spirit of Africa can be found in the 33-acre wildlife preserve that surrounds half of the building. With over 30 species of wildlife and lush tropical surroundings, guests can view numerous animals in their natural habitats at numerous viewing locations throughout the property (including glass alcoves, outside viewing areas, and even guest room balconies). Animals such as giraffes, zebras, gazelle, wildebeests, flamingos, ostriches, and more can be seen within the area. The building, itself, was actually built in a half-moon shape around the savanna, in order to allow guests the opportunity to see the main attraction of the hotel, the animals.
But let’s not forget the other main attraction of the hotel, the accommodations. The comfortable rooms at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge are perfectly furnished for your Orlando vacation. Each room is vividly decorated with hand-carved beds, adorning African inspired patterned quilts, décor and tapestries. Each room has a spacious bathroom, as well, with two sinks and a full bath area. Rooms vary from standard views, pool views, to savanna views. The Savanna view rooms offer fully furnished balconies with views overlooking the wild animal preserves.
