Things are getting pretty “despicable” at Universal Orlando these days. With a new Superstar parade that’ll have guests singing and dancing along with the mischievous minions from the popular animated film “Despicable Me” set to open on Tuesday, May 8 and a new ride based on the film opening sometime this summer, Universal Orlando has gotten down right despicable!
Universal’s all-new daily parade dubbed the Superstar Parade will feature larger-than-life-floats, state-of-the-art technology, street performers and of course your favorite characters from some of Universal’s most popular films, including those hilarious little Twinkie-shaped minions from “Despicable Me.” Along with other characters from the movie including Gru and his three daughters, the minions will sing and dance their way through the streets of the park during the energetic parade. And if you want a better look at the goofy yellow characters, the minions will hold meet-and-greets prior to the parade at select locations throughout the day.
In addition to seeing the minions sing and dance in the Superstar Parade, guests to Universal Orlando will be able to experience the mischievous little characters in a new “Despicable Me” ride that is expected to open sometime this summer. While we’re not quite sure the exact opening date of Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, the ride will utilize a sophisticated digital 3D projection system and take guests on a high-tech adventure with their favorite characters from the film including Gru, daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes, and of course, the oh-so popular minions.
The back story behind Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is that Gru, the super-villain from the film is bringing his evil plans – and his three adopted daughters – to Universal Studios, where he plans to transform guests into an army of mischievous minions to do his dastardly bidding. The ride begins when guests enter Gru’s home, and are escorted into his secret lab where they suddenly learn that they’ve been recruited to become minions and undergo “minion training.” Like the rest of Gru’s evil attempts things don’t go quite as he had planned and guests find themselves on a hilariously wild adventure with Gru, his daughters and the rest of the minions. After guests make it through the “minion training,” and the rest of the ride they’ll join the real minions and show off their best dance moves in an interactive, minion-inspired dance party.
