Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be the first major Mickey-themed ride-though attraction in Disney parks history. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this all-new attraction is set to open in 2020, but during the D23 Expo 2019 Parks Panel, chairman Bob Chapek released a few more exciting details about this much-anticipated attraction.
Located inside of the Chinese Theatre at the end of Hollywood Boulevard, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is replacing Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ opening day attraction, Great Movie Ride. Guests will enter into the Chinese Theatre, which will serve as a “magic portal” where theatergoers will step from the human world into the cartoon world!
You’ll board a train with Goofy as an engineer, and you’ll be on your way into the wacky and unpredictable world of Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts. The attraction will feature an original story, a loveable theme song, and all-new visual effects and stat-of-the-art technology.
At the D23 Expo 2019, panel participants were given a sneak peek into concept art for the front of the attraction, queue lines, backdrops, and more! With the end of 2019 around the corner, the anticipation for the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios continues to build.
This attraction will also be opening in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland Park in the year 2022. While Walt Disney World’s version will be located inside of the Chinese Theatre, Disneyland’s version will take place at the El CapiTOON Theater! With the creation of this new attraction, both coasts will officially have Mickey-themed ride-through attractions for guests to enjoy.
It’s been over two years since the Great Movie Ride took its last journey through the magic of the movies, so seeing the Chinese Theatre open to guests once again will be an exciting time at Walt Disney World resort. No official opening date of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway has been set, but 2020 will be here before we know it!
