Disney Movie Magic’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Nighttime projections have become a big attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios is now adding a projection show of its own to their nightly entertainment options. Following the popularity of Magic Kingdom’s Celebrate the Magic and the subsequent Once Upon A Time (a celebration of Disney’s classic movies projected on Cinderella Castle), Disney Movie Magic is now similarly entertaining fans at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Projection shows were designed to be a precursor to the fireworks at Disney, but they have become popular in and of themselves, sometimes with multiple showings per night. The concept is simple: Disney movies are projected onto a backdrop, accompanied by music. But instead of a movie or flat screen, they use the park icons as the display.  Disney’s first venture into the idea came with Celebrate the Magic, but Disney Movie Magic will be the first full projection show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Hollywood Studios’ version of the show is projected onto the park’s icon, the Chinese Theater, and lasts 10 minutes each night before the Star Wars – A Galactic Spectacular fireworks show. This particular show will take a look at Disney’s finest film classics, from Mary Poppins to Beauty and the Beast and Pirates of the Caribbean. All movie genres are shown, including musicals, comedy, live action, and of course, Disney’s beloved animated films.

Disney Movie Magic begins with the man who created Disney movie magic from the beginning, Walt Disney. Red-carpet footage from the 1964 premiere of Mary Poppins in Hollywood is shown before the movie collaboration begins.

And, great news: There is no end date for Disney Movie Magic. A viewing tip: Be sure to get a spot in front of the Chinese Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with time to spare to catch the best views.
