Best of Orlando was invited to take a walk through the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We were the first group to step inside the land at Walt Disney World and it’s more incredible than you could ever imagine. Here’s what we learned:
Guests can enter the completely immersive Star Wars land through two entrances. One entrance brings you into the ancient forest area of the planet. The Black Spire Outpost Town Center stands straight ahead. On the left-hand side the Resistance has touched down and they are recruiting members for a secret mission. Here you’ll find the new attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance that puts you in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The ride is the biggest and technically complex attraction Disney Imagineering has ever undertaken. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is opening in Phase 2.
The other entrance brings guests in from Toy Story Land. Here you will get an impressive wide shot of the land. Straight ahead is the entrance of the Suke Marketplace where you can get customized apparel. It’s important to note that anything purchased on this planet is authentic and only available to residents and visitors here. You won’t’ find it anywhere else in Walt Disney World.
Star Wars: Galaxy Edge will do a phenomenal job inserting guests into the Star Wars story. One-way Disney is doing this is through custom droid and lightsabers. At Droid Depot, guests will be able to create droids that will be able to interact with other droids in the land. Lightsabers will also be custom created and will also be able to interact throughout the area.
Even the food in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will transport guests to the films. Ronda Roasters will use a pod racer engine to roast meat. Docking Bay 7 is a quick service restaurant and the signature restaurant will be Olga’s Cantina. Just like the merchandise, all of the food is unique to planet and not available anywhere else.
The second signature attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The most impressive part about the ride is that it is actual size. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will allow riders to fly the fastest ship in the galaxy on an interactive smuggling mission.
Galaxy’s Edge is part of a 14-acre expansion - the largest in Disney history. The land will debut August 29, 2019. Stay tuned for more details.
