FastPass+ is a great tool to get the most out of your Walt Disney World experience, but you might not know all of its possibilities. Here is a quick guide to FastPass+ and how to use it.

How to Book
There are two ways to obtain a FastPass+: through the My Disney Experience app or website in advance of visits, or through in-park kiosks. The Fastpass+ is then stored on the Magic Bands if you have purchased or your park tickets. We strongly recommend booking your FastPass+ in advance of your trip, thus buying your tickets as early as possible (FastPass+ reservations can be booked up to 30 days in advance). Popular attractions can book up fast so the sooner you get your FastPass+ reservations the better your chances of experiencing the attraction. You can book a FastPass+ for any hour window during the park’s normal hours.

Hotels With 60-Day Advance FastPass+ Booking
If you’re staying at a Disney resort, you can make FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance of the first night stay. You can also book FastPass+ reservations for your entire stay starting 60 days before your first day.

Make Up to Three FastPass+ Bookings
When booking FastPass+ in advance you can make up to three reservations each day of your stay. Each reservation has an hour window (it’s actually little more. See below). These hours cannot overlap. The three reservations must also be at a single park. Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios have tiered selections (see below). When you make your advanced three reservations they can only include a maximum of one “Tier 1” ride. The FastPass+ booking window opens at 7 a.m., EST either 30 or 60 days in advance.

You can Modify Your Booking
It is easier to change your booking then to last minute book so we suggest grabbing an open spot on a ride you want, even if it’s not the time you want. Then you can change it later if a more preferred time opens up.

Keep on Booking FastPass+ Selections
After you have redeemed your initial FastPass+ selections, you can book additional same-day selections, as available. You can do this with the app as well as the in-park kiosks.

The Best FastPass+ Strategy
Yes, there is some strategy to all of this! Here’s what it is: book as far in advance as possible, book your FastPass+ reservations in close together preferably between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., as soon as you use your first FastPass+ start modifying your next two and continue picking up new FastPass+ slots throughout the day.

How to Redeem
Guests can “redeem” FastPass+ by swiping the MagicBand or park ticket against an RFID “Mickey Head” reader outside FastPass+ attractions. You can be 5 minutes early or 15 minutes late to use your FastPass+ reservation.

FastPass+ Tiers
New for 2018, Disney has introduced tiers for rides that are likely to be the most popular. They include Alien Swirling Saucers and Slinky Dg Dash at Hollywood Studios; Frozen Ever After, Soarin’, Test Track, Illuminatins: Reflections of Light, and Epcot Character Spot at Epcot; Flight of Passage and Na’vi River journey at Animal Kingdom. You can only book one Top Tier ride in your first set of three FastPass+ selections. Once you use or cancel you can book another tier one ride.

The second Disney World FastPass tier includes such rides as Beauty and the Beast, Disney Junior Live on Stage!, Fantasmic!, Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, Muppet Vision 3D, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Star Tours, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios.
