Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba has been entertaining guests since it opened at Disney Springs almost 20 years ago. But soon the curtain will close for good on the circus-themed acrobatic spectacular. Disney announced earlier this year that La Nouba would have its final performance on December 31, 2017.
When it wraps, more than 11 million people will have seen one of La Nouba’s nearly 9,000 performances. If you have yet to see the production it can be a bit hard to explain the Cirque experience.
The show’s name comes from the French phrase “faire la nouba,” which means to “live it up.” The show certainly does that with its many acrobats, aerialists, break dancers, singers, trapeze artists, jugglers and clown. The dreamlike story in which circus people bring color and vibrancy to an urban setting incorporates a score infused with world music played by live musicians and of course jaw-dropping acts.
Cirque du Soleil announced on Monday the first details about the show that will replace the long-running La Nouba at Disney Springs.
The new show will draw its inspiration from Disney’s heritage of animation. “It will celebrate Disney’s legacy of storytelling in Cirque du Soleil’s signature way, with a tribute to the one-of a kind craftsmanship that makes Disney so extraordinary.” It is being created by Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group in collaboration with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Stay tuned for more details.
