The long-awaited NBA Experience held its grand opening on Monday, August 12, 2019 and it was a championship-worthy celebration to say the least! From the celebrity guests and NBA and WNBA players of past and present to Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, some pretty exciting people were in attendance on this slam dunk of a day.

Bob Iger unveiled this first-of-its-kind destination stating that “NBA Experience lets everybody who loves the game, live it.”

The grand opening was hosted by ESPN personality Rachel Nichols and those guests in attendance got the full grand opening experience! From a DJ and fan-cam to t-shirt tosses and a dance performance, there was a lot of excitement on grand opening day. Even Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse made an appearance as confetti rained down during the end of the ceremonial opening. The ceremonial opening also featured Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers Grant Hill and Kareen Abdul-Jabbar, NBA legend Dwyane Wade, Utah Jazz point guard Mike Conley, Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez, Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem, Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon, and WNBA legend Swin Cash who is now the vice president of basketball operations and team development for the New Orleans Pelicans.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke at the grand opening saying “I want to thank Bob Iger and the Walt Disney Imagineering team for capturing the authentic NBA experience at this landmark destination in Disney Springs. Disney creates memorable experiences better than anyone, and we are thrilled to share the excitement of NBA basketball with fans and Walt Disney World guests from around the world.”

The NBA Experience is located on the Disney Springs West Side near Splitsville Luxury Lanes and the House of Blues. At the NBA Experience guests can undergo what it feels like to be selected in the NBA Draft and step out onto the basketball court to make highlight-worthy shots! 

Walt Disney Imagineering worked in collaboration with the NBA to develop this truly immersive and interactive venue. The NBA Experience features two floors and 44,000 square feet of basketball-related fun in the form of 13 different activities. This high-energy environment also provides guests with multiple opportunities to learn more about the NBA and WNBA through films, trivia and interactive displays. The NBA Experience is a unique destination that offers something for basketball lovers of all ages!
