Ready for all the new things coming to Walt Disney World in 2019? As Walt Disney World inches closer to its 50th anniversary in 2021, we'll see new shows, rides and services unveiled. But what about 2019? Does it make sense to visit Walt Disney World ahead of the anniversary crowds, or before the construction is done? Here's our list of new things to expect if you're planning a Disney vacation in 2019.
If you haven't visited Walt Disney World in the last couple years, you may not realize all the new things that have actually already arrived in preparation for the 50th anniversary. While Walt Disney World is undergoing major changes, there are several new things we're excited to see finally arrive in 2019.
Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy: Starting spring of 2019, you can find the Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy near the Rock n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios. This will be a brand new show featuring an opportunity to meet both Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez. A perfect new addition for Cars fans.
Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway: Replacing The Great Movie Ride and located in the Chinese Theater at Hollywood Studios, this ride will allow guests to enter a cartoon world like none we've ever experienced at Walt Disney World before. Bringing Mickey and Minnie front and center, we'll also see Goofy in this ride, as the wacky train conductor who goes a little haywire. We cannot wait for this one!
The Lion King Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party: 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of The Lion King, and with that comes a new dance party in Animal Kingdom! Found on Discovery Island, the dance party will run from Jan. 18-Sept. 30 and will feature Simba, Timon and Rafiki.
Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party: Replacing the Move it! Shake it! Dance and Play It Street Party in Magic Kingdom, this new party will feature Mickey, Minnie and other characters dancing to popular Mickey Mouse Club remixes. The party starts Jan. 18 in Magic Kingdom, and will include merchandise, as well as themed food and beverages.
Hollywood Studios 30th Anniversary: May 1st marks the anniversary of Hollywood Studios, so special things will be happening all over the park. From Jan. 18-Sept. 30, Pixar Place will be transformed into a Municiberg city block, featuring appearances from Elastigirl, Mr. Incredible, Jack-Jack, Edna Mode and Frozone.
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge: Planned to open at Walt Disney World in late fall 2019, Star Wars Galaxy's Edge will include new rides, restaurants, shopping and a completely immersive experience for Star Wars fans. You can find Star Wars Galaxy's Edge right next to Toy Story Land on 14 acres of land in Hollywood Studios.
Disney Skyliner Transportation System: For guests staying at Art of Animation, Pop Century or Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, a new gondola transportation system will be in place by Summer 2019, allowing guests to avoid buses to get to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
Sebastian's Bistro Restaurant at Caribbean Beach Resort: Shutters Restaurant at The Caribbean Beach Resort is being replaced with a fresh new Little Mermaid-themed Table Service restaurant called Sebastian Bistro. Complete with waterfront views, this new restaurant will be easy to get to via the new Disney Skyliner. This restaurant opens mid-2019.
