Walt Disney World has some exciting plans for the New Year and beyond. From the return of popular parades to a new out of this world resort and more, 2022 promises to be a thrilling one at the Orlando theme park. Let’s take a look at what’s coming (and returning) to the park:
Magic Kingdom
Return of Festival of Fantasy Parade - We love when Disney brings back our favorite attractions and in 2022 guests can once again be swept up with characters from Tangled, Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid in the popular daytime parade - Festival of Fantasy at Magic Kingdom. While we’re not exactly sure on a date yet, Disney has promised an updated version of the parade sometime in early 2022.
Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire - In honor of Disney’s 50th anniversary celebration, Magic Kingdom is celebrating in 2022 with the 50th anniversary edition of Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire. Coming to the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage, “Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire” will include favorite scenes from the previous version of the show, plus a new opening and a new finale with Mickey Mouse and friends. There will even be an all-new, original song called “Where the Magic Feels Like Home.”
Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade - Magic Kingdom will also welcome a brand-new cavalcade called “Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade” sometime in the winter of 2022. According to Disney, the cavalcade “will feature the most characters of any cavalcade to date,” including Nick and Judy from Zootopia, Baloo and King Louie from The Jungle Book, José Carioca and Panchito from The Three Caballeros, Miguel from Coco, as well as Merida, Moana, The Incredibles, and more.
Tron Lightcycle Power Run - Thrill seekers can get their screams in with the new Tron Lightcycle Power Run ride coming to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Inspired by a similar attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, the brand new coaster-style attraction will put guests aboard a two-wheeled “lightning cycle” where they will discover the digital frontier. Construction is currently underway.
Reimagining of Splash Mountain - Splash Mountain will be getting a new facelift in 2022. The popular attraction will now be called Princess and the Frog Splash Mountain and according to Disney, will pick up after the end of the popular 2009 movie. The ride will follow Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance. We don’t expect this attraction to be done in 2022 but hopefully construction will begin at the end of the year.
Hollywood Studios
Fantasmic! - Another return of a popular attraction is heading to Hollywood Studios in 2022. The nighttime fireworks spectacular, Fantasmic! Will once again dazzle guests each night. We don’t have many details on when Fantasmic! will return, we do know that it will include a new sequence featuring characters that have never been part of the show before.
Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser - Book a stay in the Star Wars Universe in 2022 at the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This immersive new resort will be unlike any other Disney resort stay with opportunities to interact and participate with stories and characters from the series.
Epcot
New Epcot Entrance - Epcot guests will be greeted with a new entrance in 2022. Concept art featured plenty of green space, winding paths, and the relocation of the monolithic Leave a Legacy photos outside the front entrance of the park. Stay tuned for more details.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind - Epcot will also welcome a thrill ride in the New Year. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will feature ride vehicles that rotate directing your view towards the story. Disney has said this new ride is one of the world’s longest enclosed coasters and we’re sure it will be as impressive as its size.
New Play Pavilion - Kids will be immersed in an interactive city at the new Play Pavilion at Epcot. Located in the former “Wonders of Life Pavilion,” this new attraction invites guests to create and interact with Disney characters.
Journey of Water inspired by Moana - Take a water adventure with Moana in the new Journey of Water inspired by the hit Disney film. The walk-through experience is hands-on, allowing guests to interact with living water.
DuckTales World Showcase Adventure - The next iteration of the interactive scavenger hunt around World Showcase will soon be DuckTales. The scavenger hunt currently hosts Phineas and Ferb.
Animal Kingdom
Finding Nemo - The Big Blue…and Beyond - Disney announced in September that “Finding Nemo: The Musical” at Animal Kingdom would be returning in 2022 with new storylines and the return of songs from the original show. The updated show will be called “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond” and will follow more closely the timeline of Finding Dory. The show takes place at the Marine Life Institute where audiences will “catch up with the fish from Dr. P. Sherman’s office in Finding Nemo, who have made their way across the ocean to California.”
