Since the big announcements during the D23 Expo in 2019, we’ve been seeing big changes at EPCOT at Walt Disney World! From new attractions to updated pavilions and name changes, we’re covering everything that’s NEW at EPCOT and what’s still to come!
One of the first major changes to this park was its entrance area. We saw the return of its fountain from the 1980’s design, flags displaying the icons of EPCOT’s many pavilions, and the removal of the Leave a Legacy structures. A bit of a name change too place as well. “Epcot” became “EPCOT” and the park also dawns an updated logo and font design! Last, on October 1, 2021, Future World was transformed into three new neighborhoods: World Discovery, World Celebration, and World Nature. As this park continues to transform, we’ll see even more excitement from these new neighborhoods.
World Discovery is themed around stories of science, technology, and intergalactic adventure. It is home to attractions like Mission: SPACE, Test Track, and now Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! David Bautista (Drax) recently visited the attraction to the surprise of some Disney guests. While some attractions have remained the same, we’ve seen the addition of the long-awaited Wonders of Xandar pavilion and the new Space 220 restaurant. We’re still unsure when the PLAY! Pavilion will make its debut in the future, but when it does it will be located in World Discovery as well.
World Celebration is themed around new experiences that connect guests to one another through creativity, storytelling, and imagination. It is home to Spaceship Earth, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, the Odyssey Center, and CommuniCore Hall. While Journey Into Imagination With Figment and Spaceship Earth have remained virtually unchanged, the rest of World Celebration has undergone some major changes! We’ve seen the reopening of Club Cool in its new location, a brand new shopping experience – the Creations Shop, and most recently, a new coffee spot and quick-service eatery – Connection Cafe & Eatery. World Celebration is set to become the home base for all of EPCOT’s festivals throughout the year! We also look forward to the addition of Dreamers Point – an upcoming futuristic garden featuring a Walt Disney statue.
World Nature is themed EPCOT’s dedication to understanding and preserving the beauty, awe, and balance of the natural world. It’s home to The Land and The Seas pavilions, with the upcoming Journey of Water attraction opening sometime later this year! In this neighborhood you’ll find The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Living with the Land, Turtle Talk with Crush, Soarin’ Around the World, and Awesome Planet. This area hasn’t seen many changes so far, but the addition of a new Moana-inspired attraction will be a big plus!
While World Showcase remains mostly the same, we did see a pretty big addition at the France pavilion last year. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, originally from Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris Resort, opened on October 1, 2021. It brought two new eateries with it along with tons of excitement for Disney’s littlest chef. The America Pavilion welcomed a new quick-service restaurant as well, the Regal Eagle Smokehouse, which serves dishes celebrating the different regions of American backyard barbecue and craft beers! Guests can finish their evening at EPCOT with the park’s exclusive nighttime spectacular, Harmonious. This show lights up World Showcase Lagoon in a whole new way! You’ll have to see it to believe it!
It’s been almost three years since Disney announced these big changes for EPCOT, and it’s amazing to see how much has been accomplished in this transformation. The excitement for the offerings still to come just keeps building! We can’t wait to share even more EPCOT details as they continue to debut.
