The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular has been a part of Walt Disney World for almost three decades. This stunt show attraction is currently one of the oldest attractions still open today at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! If you’re a fan of this epic Indiana Jones attraction, here are four outstanding facts you’ll definitely want to know about.

Not An Opening Day Attraction
Despite popular belief, the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular didn’t open with Disney-MGM Studios park on May 1, 1989. Although it was originally planned as an opening day attraction, Disney CEO Michael Eisner and George Lucas didn’t feel that the show was ready in time. Guests still viewed the show as a dress rehearsal format instead of the actual show until it opened later that year in August. So, although both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular both turn 30 this year, they don’t share the same anniversary!

An Exact Replica
If you’re a fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark, you’ll appreciate this next fact. During the very first scene of the stunt show Indy is attempting to steal an exact replica of the golden idol from the film! This prop was made to look exactly like the original down to every detail. This aspect of the attraction just goes to show the extra mile that Disney goes to when creating the ultimate experience for their guests!

Pull The Rope
If you find yourself outside of the show of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, make sure to look for the well. There will be a sign on the well that reads: “Warning: Do Not Pull Rope.” If you decide to pull the rope, you’ll hear that a man is stuck in the bottom of the well! This fun gag is just one of those Disney details you should always look out for when you’re visiting the parks.

Large Moving Parts
This stunt show features some of the largest moving sets in history! In fact, the sets for the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular weigh around 100 tons each. The iconic giant rolling ball weighs 440 pounds and is 12 feet in diameter! Each set is very detailed and are meant to be replicas of the famous Indiana Jones movie scenes which is exactly why they are so heavy. This attraction is also one of the attractions known for using most mechanical parts and special effects on Walt Disney World property!
