Have you had the chance to meet Dash, the Prehensile Tailed Skink at SeaWorld Orlando yet? Dash is one of the Orlando theme park’s many Animal Ambassadors and he’s one of the cutest ones yet!

Dash is a SeaWorld Orlando native. He was born at the park four years ago. SeaWorld Orlando, in conjunction with zoos across the country is a part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP), which helps keep animal species alive. The Prehensile Tailed Skink is one of those species. Dash and his skinks are on the threatened list due to habitat destruction.

The Prehensile Tailed Skink is from a very small region in the world - the Solomon Islands off the coast of Australia. They live in family groups and recognize each other by their sense of smell. Skinks are arboreal (meaning tree dwelling) so they spend their entire lives up in trees. Because of this, they are also vegetarian. They do have sharp teeth for tearing up and biting their food. Another neat fact about these skinks is that their tail is able to detach so they can get away from predators.

Throughout the day, SeaWorld Orlando brings their Animal Ambassadors out to interact with guests. Be on the lookout for Dash, who can be found crawling on a log, on your next visit.
