Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is just the Walt Disney World ® Resort for an island getaway in the middle of the Sunshine State. With over 2,000 rooms, this resort celebrates the lifestyle of the tropics with six island-inspired villages that are situated along more than 200 lush landscaped acres.
Each of the six villages of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort are situated in a large circle around the 45-acre Barefoot Bay Lake, and each has its own white sand beach along the shore and “quiet” swimming pool. The guest rooms are located within two-story buildings that are painted in warm yellows, cool blues and sun-kissed pinks, with the Caribbean influence carrying on inside. Each room is decorated with bright vividly colored bedspreads, wallpaper, and furniture. Most guest rooms feature two double beds, a table and chairs, and a walk-in bathroom with a separate vanity area. Nearly 400 rooms in the South Trinidad building have been refurbished as “Pirate” rooms following the popularity of the Pirates in the Caribbean movie franchise. These special rooms feature beds that double as pirate ships, bedspreads that feature gold coins and gems, carpet that resembles wooden planks, furniture that doubles as trunks and barrels, and even a pirate-themed curtain that separates the room from the vanity/bathroom area. But even inside the wash room, guests will find a shower curtain that is emblazoned with pirate ships and a sketch of the Flying Dutchman etched onto the shower wall.
The tropical courtyards and lush landscaping may be reason enough for families to stay at this Moderate Resort, but the recreation activities takes this resort to a whole new level! In addition to the recent renovation of the Pirate rooms, the main pool at Old Port Royale has recently received a huge facelift with a pirate theme as well. Fortresses and dungeons are just part of the fun that surrounds the large swimming area, which also features two slides and a pair of spas, an open-air bar named Banana Cabana with ample outdoor seating and a separate children’s area with a pirate-wreck themed play area that will account for hours of fun for the entire family!
In addition to the main feature pool at Old Port Royale, the epicenter of the resort also features a merchandise shop, arcade, a food-court area that has the feel of an outdoor open-air market, and a sit-down full-service restaurant, Shutters, that opens nightly. Outside, the Barefoot Bay Marina also has watercraft and bike rentals, including family bikes that are perfect for taking a ride around the 1.4-mile trek that travels around the circumference of Barefoot Bay Lake.
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is one of the largest resorts at the Walt Disney World ® Resort (it even has its own internal bus system), but the individual villages offer the tranquility of an island setting without the feeling of being overrun by the thousands of guests that this resort can accommodate at one time.
