It started as a toy more than 20 years ago, then turned into a box office hit in 2007, 2009, 2011 and soon to be in 2014, and now guests at Universal Orlando Resort will finally be able to do more than just play and watch Transformers, they’ll actually be able to step inside the world of the Autobots and Decepticons and become a part of the epic battle

We’re just days away from the official grand opening of Transformers: The Ride 3D at Universal Studios. And while some have had the chance to battle the Decepticons during the ride’s technical rehearsals everybody at Universal Studios will get the chance to save Earth and the All-Spark during the ride’s official grand opening on June 20 at 10 a.m.

If you weren’t one of the lucky few who got a sneak peak at Transformers: The Ride 3D here’s what you can expect when it opens on Thursday:

Your mission begins inside the ride’s queue, which has been designed to look like the N.E.S.T. facility. Inside the N.E.S.T. there are several rooms set-up to recruit guests to help Autobots protect the AllSpark from the Decepticons. While you are being recruited you’ll encounter many of the same elements and props you did in the many Transformers films as well as several buttons, dials, knobs and switches to play with as you wait to board.

Just before you embark on the epic battle you’ll be given 3D glasses to completely immerse you in the ride’s incredible robot environment. Inside the screens are wrapped around riders on all sides, fully creating a world full of robots fighting and transforming in front of your eyes.

As the story goes, Decepticons are attacking Earth in search of the life-giving All-Spark. The Autobots with the help of the government agency N.E.S.T. and new recruits (that’s you) have vowed to stop the Decepticons and their ultimate destruction of Earth. With 3D glasses in hand you’ll board an Evac, a Transformer created specifically for the ride and begin your battle against the evil-doers.

Along the way recruits will come face-to-face with Autobots heroes such as Bumblebee and Optimus Prime and the evil lord of the Decepticons, Megatron. You’ll also experience some of the best 3D features you’ve ever encountered on a ride as Transformers: The Ride 3D uses a mix of giant 3D projections and real-life surrounding set pieces.
