The popular coffee house, Starbucks has officially opened at Walt Disney World ® with the new location settling nicely into the old Main Street Bakery on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic kingdom ®. But unlike other Starbucks across the country the one at Magic Kingdom ® has a unique Disney ® backstory.

When you’re looking for the new Starbucks on Main Street U.S.A. don’t be on the look out for the company’s famous green and white mermaid logo. Instead what you should be looking for is Starbuck’s original logo used from 1971-1987 featuring a brown background and a mermaid with two tails.

If you’re familiar with Main Street U.S.A. the small town takes guests back to circa 1910, not 1971. So in order to tie the coffee company into the 1910’s town Disney ® chose the original version of the logo and found lots of plates, statues and other sculptures reminiscent of the sign to place throughout the coffee shop. As the story goes the turn-of-the-century café owner found the mermaid figure and loved it so much he made it into his logo. And so Starbucks was born.

Of course we know that’s not quite how the real story goes. Starbucks was originally intended to be called Pequod, the name of the ship in the classic novel, “Moby Dick.” But was eventually named after the ship’s first mate, Starbuck.

Regardless of whether you prefer Disney’s ® story or the original, the new Main Street coffee house, which opened June 18 offers a menu that incorporates some of Disney’s ® favorites with Starbucks own popular items Such items include Bacon and Gouda Artisan Breakfast Sandwich, Ham and Cheddar Artisan Breakfast Sandwich, Sausage and Cheddar Classic Breakfast Sandwich, Spinach, Feta and Cage-Free Egg White Breakfast Wrap as well as your favorite frappuccinos, smoothies, espresso drinks and Starbucks Refreshers.

Magic Kingdom ® isn’t the only Walt Disney World ® theme park to be getting a new jolt from Starbucks. Epcot ® is also slated to open a Starbucks location soon, when the Fountain View restaurant opens this summer.
