Have you ever been stuck on a ride? Last week, I had the pleasure of being detained by playful spooks on the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. I’m not talking about hours or more than 10 minutes. I’m talking about a short pause of a few minutes. Haunted Mansion is a great example of a ride where it happens often, at least to me it does. I’m thinking it’s because the ride is on a continuous moving track, an Omnimover system. Spaceship Earth, Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid, The Seas with Nemo & Friends and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are all good examples. If they need to stop the ride for any reason, they need to stop everyone on the ride.
But I have to say, I prefer to get stuck in the Haunted Mansion the most. I’ve been stuck in the attic, while you’re laying down entering the graveyard, in the hallway, the dining room and more; I think I’ve been stuck almost everywhere on the Haunted Mansion. Now some places are better to get stuck than most. I really enjoyed the dining room scene and the singing busts in the graveyard than getting stuck in a dark corner between scenes.
I also love how the Haunted Mansion has unique messages from our ghost host. “Playful spooks have interrupted our tour. Please remain seated in your Doom Buggy. We will proceed in just a moment.” Or “We have been unavoidably detained by pranky spirits. Kindly remain seated in your Doom Buggy, please. We will continue our tour momentarily.”
When the Doom Buggy stops, the hidden mickey hunting begins or just looking around carefully to see if I spot new details. It’s crazy that I’ve been going on this ride for as long as I can remember and still happen to find new things I haven’t seen or noticed before. What’s your favorite “Stuck in a Ride” experience?
