The Beatles are coming! The Beatles are coming! 50 years ago four young men from Liverpool, England walked into Abbey Road Studios to record their first single “Love Me Do.” Little did they know they would become one of the greatest and most influential bands of all times. And this year, Walt Disney World ® is paying homage to The Beatles and their 50 years of legendary music with a unique and very Disney-esque recreation of one of The Beatles most iconic photos as well as some The Beatles merchandise.
You’ve seen the famous photo of John, Ringo, Paul and George walking the crosswalk on Abbey Road. Well, what better way to honor the band than with some of Disney’s ® most famous characters re-creating the Abbey Roads photo? Since the Beatles were known as the “Fab Four” and Disney’s main characters are lovingly referred to as the “Fab Five” it was only appropriate that Mickey, Pluto, Donald and Goofy were used for the iconic photo.
And what a tribute it is as Mickey, Pluto, Donald and Goofy (in that order) were photographed walking a crosswalk on Main Street U.S.A at Magic Kingdom ® with many of the same details from the original photo, except with a little Disney ® twist of course! Behind them lies a trolley that appears to be coming towards them, on the right side of the road a single man stands on the sidewalk and a Volkswagen Bug (which is actually the Bug that was used in the Disney ® film, Herbie) is parked on the left side of the street. The bright beautiful blue sky even seems to match the one photographed that day on Abbey Road. And in the far distance is a gorgeous shot of Cinderella Castle adding a little Disney ® magic to the photo.
The Yellow Shoes Creative Group was in charge of the shoot and brought in the props and other elements to make the scene as detailed and as close to the original as possible. All of the elements in the photo are authentic and were on Main Street as they are seen in the image. The only photo enhancement used was “grainy” hint to make the photo look more like a photo taken in 1969.
In addition to the image, Walt Disney World ® is also selling “Fab Four” merchandise in the United Kingdom Pavilion at Epcot ®. The items include several graphic tees like the one that says “Yellow Submarine” with a bright rainbow and submarine on the front, The Beatles set of four glasses featuring John, Ringo, Paul and George. There are also The Beatles lunchboxes, duffle bags and matching mini-bags. And to go along with your shopping make sure you listen to the Revolution Band that plays nearby.
