Your favorite Walt Disney World infamous thrill ride, The Tower of Terror, at Hollywood Studios has been inducing blood-curdling screams in guests for more than 20 years. This Friday, the tower will add a new drop when it releases the “Hollywood Tower Authentic Hotel” line of merchandise in celebration of the attraction’s popularity in the park. And with the removal of Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat, the Hollywood Tower Hotel has become the new acting icon for Hollywood Studios until an official icon replaces it in the future.
It is only fitting that Friday, February 13 is the day when Disney will release this new haunting collection. The Tower of Terror is one of the spookiest and most sinister rides in all of Walt Disney World. It’s also on the 13th floor where guests begin to experience unusual occurrences before dropping to the bottom.
Fans of the infamous drop tower will be able to take home a piece of the thrill with “Your Room is Ready” iPhone cases, a The Hollywood Tower Hotel journal, key, shot glass, bell, mug, beer glass, a bag that looks like vintage luggage, a bellhop hat, and multiple shirts with sayings like, “You Can Check In But You Can’t Check Out!”  In addition to the new “Hollywood Tower Hotel Authentic” apparel and souvenirs, the Disney pin team will release new open edition pins as part of this creepy collection.
If the new “Hollywood Tower Hotel Authentic” line looks familiar that’s because it is, sort of. Disney Design Group artists were inspired by the Haunted Mansion Authentic program released last year when designing this artwork. Similar design elements like the use of vintage advertisements were also used in the new Tower of Terror line. While the new collection celebrates The Tower of Terror attraction, several of the new items display The Hollywood Tower Hotel logo, which seems to remember when the hotel was once a bustling resort full of Hollywood elite and not the dilapidated building full of haunts we know today.
When the merchandise drops on Friday, the 13th, guests will not only be able to shop the new merchandise they will be able to meet the designers behind the collection. Disney Design Group artists will be available at the Tower Hotel Gifts inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Disney Artists Tyler Dumas, Brian Blackmore, Richard Terpstra and Quynh Kimball are scheduled to attend.
