The Incredible Hulk Coaster will be closing down until summer 2016 for some major upgrades.

For the past two years, Universal Orlando has been in a constant state of change. Today, that change continues with one of Islands of Adventure’s most popular attractions.

Universal announced today that the Incredible Hulk Coaster will close September 8, 2015 for “major enhancements and refurbishment.” According to Universal’s official blog these changes will include “some great, new enhancements to its storyline, ride vehicles and over all experience.” Rumors are swirling that the entire queue building will be rebuilt as well as entire sections of the track replaced and the launch system upgraded from tires to an electromagnetic launch system.

Unfortunately for fans, the coaster won’t roar back to life until summer 2016. There had been rumors that the park would reopen the ride during peak times of year, such as Christmas and Spring Break, but it looks like the entire ride will remain closed until next summer.

Doug Boemler Wareing, Manager of Content Strategy and Development for Universal Orlando Resort, said in a statement “I’ve been lucky enough to get a sneak peek at plans for The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and can tell you the overall experience is going to feel more immersive and high-tech, but “the attraction will still have the same ‘Incredible’ personality that makes it one of America’s most popular coasters.”
The Incredible Hulk opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999, and was the first “launched” coaster by Bolliger & Mabillard. It has gone on to become one of the most beloved coasters in all of Orlando.

The 2016 summer season is already shaping up to be a blockbuster as the Hulk refurbishment will also be joined by the opening of Skull Island: Reign of Kong. While the wait may be long, there are still plenty of rides to enjoy now like Jurassic Park River Adventure, Dragon Challenge, Dr. Doom’s FearFall and more!

Also, don’t forget to take in some haunts over at Universal Studios during the annual scarefest Halloween Horror Nights beginning September 18 – November 1. As always, you can find discounted Universal Orlando tickets, including Halloween Horror Nights tickets right here on BestofOrlando.com.
