Jiko – The Cooking Place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has a new chef and pastry chef and the pair is cooking up some mouthwatering creations in a new menu Walt Disney World guests will want a taste of.
Jiko means “cooking place” in Swahili and thanks to Chef Daniel Sicilia and Pastry Chef Michael Craig, the African restaurant is paying homage to the country in a delicious new way. Guests can dine on such savory dishes as Mozambican chicken with sweet plantains, Cape gooseberries, cashews and coconut mayonnaise, Durham Ranch elk loin and Mrouzia-style lamb and much more.
A popular menu item at Jiko is the “Taste of Africa,” giving guests multiple taste of the country including in-house made pappadam, sesame fair and flax seed naan, served with a variety of dumplings including hummus, green chermoula, goat butter and mango chutney. The brand new starter is Manti Dumplings, made of boar, bison and elk served with spicy tomato sauce and saffron yogurt.
End your savory meal with one of Pastry Chef Craig’s sweet dishes like the new Kilimanjaro with Tanzanian chocolate mousse, pistachio financier, pink peppercorn meringue, cacao nib crunch and pineapple flavored with was el hanout. Niko also satisfies your sweet tooth with strawberry shortcake with local berries and sweet potato cheesecake with sweet apple chutney.
