 A rain storm might seem like it’d put a damper on your Universal Studios vacation, but no matter where you are in the park you’ll find plenty of things to keep you entertained and out of the rain. One area in particular is especially inviting when bad weather strikes. The new Diagon Alley is home to fun shops, restaurants serving up fare from the films, thrilling rides and more, all of which can be experienced indoors as the rain comes down.
Here are the best things to do when it’s raining at Universal Studios:
Shop at Diagon Alley – Diagon Alley is home to several shops from the “Harry Potter” film series. If you haven’t found the time to tour the area’s many shops, a rainy day is a perfect time to shop where the witches and wizards do. Get fitted for a wand at Ollivander’s, enjoy novelty items at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes or dabble in the dark magic at Borgin and Burkes.
Treat Yourself – There is no better time to grab a bite to eat then when it’s raining, and Diagon Alley serves up everything from British fare to sweet treats. Stop in Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour for a scoop of peanut butter ice cream. Then head on over to one of the area’s many kiosks for that famous Butterbeer. If you’re looking for something a little heartier enjoy the cottage pie, fish and chips and bangers and mash at Leaky Cauldron. Whatever you choose your taste buds will be so happy you won’t notice the rain.
Take a Ride on Hogwarts Express – If you have Universal park-to-park admission get out of the rain with a ride on the Hogwarts Express. You’ll pass through Platform 9 ¾ and board the famous train from King’s Cross Station in London. As the train takes you to Hogsmeade you’ll pass by scenes of the London countryside as well as dementors flying and swooping about, as well as other characters from the film series.
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts – Escape from the rain and take a thrill ride on Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. This multi-dimensional 3D ride puts you in the middle of the action as you navigate the underground vaults and try to avoid Voldemort and Bellatrix. It’s both thrilling and indoors, which makes it a great escape from the weather.
