SeaWorld Orlando’s Mako has been topped off at 220 feet

Construction is well underway for SeaWorld Orlando’s newest ride, Mako. The new hypercoaster will open this summer, but Orlando visitors are already enjoying elements of the thrill coaster.

A ride usually has to be open before it can hit a milestone and even then it takes months before a landmark is reached. But Mako, the ride named after the fastest known shark, isn’t waiting to wow guests. Last Wednesday, the coaster was “topped off” as cranes put the tallest point of the structure, which is the tracks of its 220-foot-tall hill, into place. When it opens, Mako will be Orlando’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster, reaching speeds of 73 miles per hour along 4,760 feet of track.

In addition to the ride, SeaWorld Orlando is creating a shark-themed realm in which, Mako will be the centerpiece. The area will include such attractions as Shark Encounter, Sharks Underwater Grill, shops, shark and shipwreck theming and educational experiences featuring sharks.

Construction on SeaWorld Orlando’s Mako continues

Riders of Mako will get a bird’s eye-view of the new area as the ride’s path will take them around the park’s lake and form a loop in front of the Shark Encounter attraction and new area.

Stay tuned for more details about Mako’s construction progress. In the meantime you can witness the steel track for yourself and see the tallest ride in Orlando with discounted SeaWorld Orlando tickets right here on Best of Orlando.
