We’re just days away from the opening off the highly-anticipated The Lion King. In celebration of the Disney remake and the film’s 25th anniversary, Walt Disney World is offering a special opportunity for fans. On Saturday, the voices of young Simba and young Nala - JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph, will be honorary Grand Marshals for the 3 p.m. Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom.
After the parade, JD and Shahadi will stick around to enjoy more of The Lion King fun. Disney’s Magic Kingdom is celebrating with new food items including such treats as a Simba Cupcake at Pizzafari, Bugs ’n Grub Waffle Cone at Anandapur Bus and Trilo-Bites, Simba Ice Cream Sandwich and more. Special limited-edition merchandise is also available honoring some of your favorite The Lion King characters and moments from the film.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is having plenty of its own festivities. In fact, the Orlando theme park played a major role in the new film. The movie’s production team spent six weeks at the park researching naturalistic backdrops that helped inspire scenes from the movie.
Along with JD and Shahadi, the all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles- Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Disney’s The Lion King opens in theaters July 19.
