Shark Reef at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is now closed

Last month Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon announced the new attraction Miss Fortune Falls is coming to the water park. But that wasn’t the only big ride news the Orlando water park shared. Typhoon Lagoon also announced the popular attraction Shark Reef would be closing.

Shark Reef, which opened when Typhoon Lagoon did in 1989, allowed guests to snorkel through an unheated reef populated with stingrays, bonehead sharks, leopard sharks and colorful tropical fish in a 362,000-gallon saltwater pool. Guests were given a mask, snorkel and life jacket for the experience. Those who didn’t want to swim could still see the fish through an underwater glass viewing window.

The animals in Shark Reef have been relocated to other places around the Walt Disney World Resort.

The attraction permanently closed on October 3. Shark Reef’s closing is all a part of the park’s continued growth and expansion.

Miss Fortune Falls will take guests on a splashy journey through the fabled Captain Mary Oceaneer’s past. The treasure-hunting heroine once traveled across the sea collecting artifacts before she became stranded at Typhoon Lagoon during a storm. The ride plunges guests into a white-water adventure where they will come across Captain Oceaneer’s many treasures. The ride will be 2-minute long making it the longest attraction at both Disney Water Parks.

Stay tuned for more details on Miss Fortune Falls.
